/SUW -Straw Urushi Wood-
Introducing “/suw” – a wooden Urushi coated straw made from scrap wood sourced from Keihoku, a town in Kyoto City known for its forestry.
We’ve coated the straw with Urushi to enhance durability, creating an all-natural, sustainable alternative to single-use straws.
We’ve tackled this issue by applying Urushi, which makes the straw waterproof, reusable, and durable. Plus, its natural antibacterial properties keep it safe and hygienic.
/suw brings together the traditional craft of Kyoto lacquerware with the skills of local woodworkers and lumberjacks from Keihoku.
Each straw is carefully coated with Urushi multiple times, allowing the wood to absorb the Urushi and form a strong, durable base. We’ve also reinforced the tip of the straw with Japanese paper, which is coated with Urushi to create a smooth, pleasant texture unique to Urushi.
The packaging is eco-friendly too, made from leftover printing paper called “shide.” We’ve designed it to avoid using any glue or adhesives.
