ガラス漆 上赤呂色(Jou AkaRoiro Urushi for Glass Base)
This Urushi is well-suited to adhesion to glass, pottery, and porcelain without sanding.
If used in a kintsugi repair job, this Urushi will increase the durability of the product.
Avoid using products with this Urushi until a minimum of three weeks after it is dry to the touch.
The adhesive properties of the Urushi increase as it dries.
Our Company's Adhesion Test Results (Water Immersion Test)
We painted Urushi on separate panes of glass, and allowed them to dry for one week, two weeks, three weeks, and one month respectively before submerging them in water. After they were submerged, we tested to see how much each pane’s Urushi would peel off.
We tested two types: colored Urushi (in pale yellow) and the high quality aka-roiro Urushi, and their results were equivalent.
Usually, normal Urushi applied to glass does not adhere well, and in early cases may peel off within one day of water submersion.
One week post-drying, submerged for three months: nothing peeled off completely
Some small bubbles have formed beneath the surface.
Two weeks post-drying, submerged for six months: nothing peeled off completely
Some small bubbles have formed beneath the surface.
Three weeks post-drying, submerged for over one year: no peeling at all
Not even small bubbles; no signs of peeling
One month post-drying, submerged for over one year: no peeling at all
Not even small bubbles; no signs of peeling
