Suited well to making sabi (錆) or ji (地) paste when mixed with tonoko (砥之粉, powder made from grindstones) or jinoko (powder made from fired and purified diatomaceous earth gathered on the Noto peninsula).
This raw Urushi is also suitable for making noriurushi (糊漆, lacquer and rice flour) to be used as an adhesive to attach cloth and paper to Urushi crafts, as well as kokuso paste (コクソ, used to fill in damaged lacquer finishings).
It is also used for sojigatame (素地固め, a technique used before reattaching broken pieces in kintsugi)
