This urushi brush is made by Utsumi Shiho, who succeeds to mature artisan Tanaka Nobuyuki. She launched her brand, "Hakeya Kitsune," and sells her brushes. This 新並通刷毛 is versatile and widely used by beginners and professionals. It can be used in various applications, such as lacquer art classes and as teaching materials for students for general purposes.

It has many types of brushes, depending on the goal. The brush has different lengths of hair inside, and we can keep using it until the hair is gone by cutting the end like a pencil when the brush is damaged.

・本通し(ほんとおし) Hon-toshi The brush hair is in the entire part of the brush.
・半通し(はんとおし)Han-toshi The brush hair is in half part of the brush.
・改通し(あらてめとおし)Arateme-toshi Special brush for a primer coat. The brush hair is in the entire part of the brush.
・立交(たてまぜ)Tatemaze half of the hair is from a horse which makes it hard. Suitable for sticky urushi.
